Here in the last few weeks I moved in with a good friend of mine named Lee Cunningham. We were talking last Saturday about the ultimate burger: chili-cheese, half & half, and a sweet tea. This burger needs to be experienced. Not under an umbrella outside, but in a place that has the same decor that it did 50 years ago when it opened. A place that if you go, everyone knows it from the thick coating of grease that lingers on you the rest of the day. Let me back up, Lee and I are form the upstate where these places exist on about every other corner. Each town has 2 or 3 “dives” or “joints” where everyone comes to get the great American artery clogger and catch up on all the latest happenings in the neighborhood. We are in search of this experience. See, a few years ago God thought it would be interesting if He would move both of us to Columbia, SC, one for a job, the other to help start a church. What we didnt know at the time, was that it was not going to be easy to relive our comfort burger here in cola. So…we are in search. As much as I can I will be impartial and unbiased, but thats highly unlikely. Along the way I will try to carry on the work started by the legendary Blake Willbanks and offer thoughts and opinions on some of the local flavors of Columbia.
Would love to join you guys one night on your journey… Maybe a road trip for some quality BBQ… I have yet to find any here in Columbia.
