Macks

Second on the list is a little place on Laurel St called Macks. This was based on Lee’s suggestion and the fist time that I have been there.

First off, the burger was pretty good. Next time I might go no mayo because I felt like I owned stock in Dukes the last few bites. The onion rings I had were average at best. Good crunch, no flavor, not a very light batter. The fries and tea were both ordered by Lee and his comments were average to below average. Again, portions were too small on the onion rings and the fries. The atmosphere at Macks is the way its suppose to be. Maybe 15 tables that were all full and a line at the counter trying to order. I didnt read too much of the menu but the general consensus was burger or a hot dog. You definitely stepped back in time when you entered with old Columbia pictures and South Carolina memorabilia on the wall. This place came really close to the atmosphere and burger that we are looking for, if the tea and sides were on par, this would be the go to place so far. Ratings:

Rush’s

Our first stop on the official list was Rush’s. I know its not the most popular choice, but it was somewhere that we hadnt been in a while so we figured what the heck.

The chili-cheese burger was decent, although I think the chili saved it. The fries here are terrible. Small, somewhat soggy and they only give you a few. The atmosphere was too much like a fast food restaurant which they are and dont try to hide. The lone bright spot was the shake. Thick, real strawberries, only downside was the small cup. Not a place that will make the final cut. Ratings:
